AOW JCPenny’s Shirt Review

JCPenney pulls ‘I’m too pretty to do homework’ shirt

Okay, I personally think this is rediculous. Seriously people, if you have a problem with this shirt, don’t buy it! That is truely the strongest and most mature message you can send to the designers. But no, people have to make a big deal about how “offensive/sexist/insulting/etc.” the shirt is. By doing that, look how much attention it’s getting now.

JCPenny handled the matter very maturely though. They simply appologized and pulled the shirt off the marker saying, “We agree that the ‘Too pretty’ T-shirt does not deliver an appropriate message, and we have immediately discontinued its sale. Our merchandise is intended to appeal to a broad customer base, not to offend them.”

That was a smart thing to do on their part, since that shirt was causing JCP to be the target of all the haters out there. It really wasn’t necessary though. America was founded on freedom of speech, so if a girl wants to wear a stupid t-shirt and express her feeling of homework, deal with it! You don’t have to agree with everyone about everything, you can accept the fact God made us all differently and respect people’s voices and opinions.

I think it’s crazy how much feedback/comments/e-mails/junk JCP got about this though. People either have way too much time on their hands to complain about something as virtually harmless as a graphic tee, or they have deeper problems that need to be handed and are taking it out on the store. To be honest, if this wasn’t part of our school assignment and I had come across the artical, I would have rolled my eyes and laughed at the people getting all bent out of shape about a shirt. We have bigger problems to deal with people! How about global warming? World hunger? The $40 million/billion/trillion America’s in dept? We need to change our perspective of things and not waste our time on pointless matters.
